Why We Partnered

Microfinance Opportunities (MFO) is a global leader in the development of financial education programs. MFO’s mission is to increase poor people’s access to high-quality financial services. It develops customer-focused innovations in product design, delivery and education, and acts as a resource to the global microfinance industry.

Branchless banking is designed to help people to access microfinance outside conventional branches using mobile technology and other retail agents. Branchless banking has the potential to expand access to financial services to people living in rural areas.

This program will develop a financial education toolkit to promote branchless banking services by the poor. It will also undertake extensive research to understand the opportunities for poor people using technology to manage their finances.

Anticipated impact

  • Educate over 500,000 clients about branchless banking
  • Equip financial institutions with the resources to bring branchless banking services to the poor
